Synopsis: Count the Blue was illustrated and written while the author spent time on an outer island in Fiji, in 2006-2007. An avid snorkeler and freediver who has undertaken many excursions in both Hawaiian and Fijian waters, she noticed that most of the ocean creatures and coral reefs were the same or very similar in both locations. What struck her however was the brilliant color of the blue sea star, and the bright blue spots of the little blue-spotted ray; both creatures found only in Fiji. Inspired by these remarkable hues of the color blue in and around the waters of Fiji, she decided to follow the blue theme in this counting book for young children and painted pictures of the animals she had seen. The multiple languages in the book reflect some of those spoken around the Pacific, where these blue creatures live. Hardcover.
